Oases of Gobi & Hangai Drive

Day 1 Arrive in Ulaanbaatar Arrive UB airport and meet by our Blue Wolf team. Takes approx 90 minsto transfer to hotel.After short freshen up, we will do city tour starting from Gandan monastery, Sukhbaatar main square, the winter palace of Bogd Jabzan Damba Hutagt VIII, Zaisan Memorial, State department store, Natural Historical Museum. Day 2 Drive to Baga Gazryn Chuluu NP Drive to South about 200 km and reach Middle Gobi and BAGA GAZRYN CHULUU. Visit the stones Valley walking and runes of the Sacred Monastery. The monastery is built on the small island in the middle of Lake Burd Nuur by local Mongolians in 16th century. Overnight there in gers tourist camp. (BLD)
Day 3 Explore Yolyn Am  The Valley in the Zuun Saikhan Mountain, located 45 km from Dalanzadgad, in the centre of South Gobi aimag, is called Yolyn Am. The narrow Valley between high rock walls has breathtaking dramatic scenery, and no doubt is one of the beautiful places in the country. In rainy summers hundreds of small waterfalls appear in the rocky walls. Trekking, camel and horse riding tours are available to the valley. After lunch, we keep driving to west and reach Khongorin Dunes, the biggests sand dunes in all Asia. Overnight in gercamp. (BLD)
Day 4 Khongoryn Els (Gobi Desert) After breakfast, we start driving to west and reach Hongoryn Dunes, the biggest sand dunes in all Asia. The 350-meter high sand dunes in Sevrei soum, South aimag, are called Hongoryn Els. These dunes are 20 km wide and 100 km long. The Hongoryn River flows along the sand dunes and gives birth to oases. Visit the dunes with camel riding. Visit a local camel breeding family and learn about their breeding programs. We will arrive at Gobi Erdene camp to have lunch & take a break for 1-2 hours, then we will drive 15 km to the dunes. We will do some hiking up the dunes up to 800 meters (Optional) & take great photos just before the sunset. Evening, drive back to the camp and have dinner. Day 5 Drive to Kharkhorin Today is a long drive north, through big open steppe area. We will move from the desert steppes to Khangai Mountain. The nomads live from livestock herding. However, by international standards, it is not densely populated. Near the sands they keep Bactrian Camels. Overnight in gercamp. (BLD)
Day 6 Explore Kharkhorin After driving few hrs /about 120kms/, we reach KharKhorum. Mongolia’s ancient capital, Kharakhorum, Chinggis Khaan’s fabled city, was founded in 1220 in the Orkhon valley, at the crossroads of the Silk Road. It was from there that the Mongol Empire governed, until Khubilai Khaan moved it to Beijing. The symbolic ruins of Kharakhorum (Harhorin), monumental walls (400 m of length) with 108 stupas, surround the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia Erdene Zuu Monastery, built in 1586. In 1792, it housed 62 temples and 10,000 lamas; since 1990, it has become an active monastery again. Turtles carved from the stone marked the boundaries of the complex. Nearby, Turkish monuments and rock inscriptions erected in 8-9th centuries in memory of outstanding fighters for independence. Quite a surprise for the scentists was the discovery of a burial of a Mongolian woman which dates to approximately the 14-th century where also two Egiptian masks, a wooden comb and a bronze mirror in a silk case were found. Day 7 Drive to Khorgi (Terkhiin Nuur Nat. Park) Driving westwards, you will stop next to ‘Taikhar chuluu’, a huge rock which related to the local mythology. The next stop of the day will be the ‘Chuluut canyon’ observation point, and the holy “100 branches tree” which stands next to it for hundreds of years. Khorgo Volcano is a dead volcano covered with basalt lying in the east of the Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan (National Park) in Arhangai aimag. Interesting bubbles of solidified lave named “Basalt ger’. Possible a visit to yak’s herders. Arhangai aimag, the north-east slope of the Hangai chain, is called “the Switzerland of Mongolia” for its forests, rivers and wooded hills. Overnight in gercamp. Day 8 Drive to Murun & Tsagaan Nuur village First day, our route turns to west and drive to the western side of the Hangai Mountains. Taiga is a boreal coniferous forest, comprised primarily of Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica) and Siberian Pine (Pinus sibirica). Coming to town Murun, get gasoline. 110kms drive to north and reach Hatgal village and overnight in gercamp. (BLD)
Day 9 Drive to Khustai Nat. Park Driving by mostly open remote and mountain areas, you have a chance to visit some nomadic Mongolian families and feel their grade hospitality. Overnight in tent.In the evening of second day we reach Hustai Nat. Park. Overnight in gercamp. (BLD)
Day 10 Explore Khustai Nat. Park & drive to Ulaanbaatar Hustai National Park is the site of a unique re-introduction scheme of Przewalskii’s horse (Equus przewalskii), by Mongolian’s called Takhi. It became extinct in the wild and have since 1992 been successfully re-introduced to Hustai from zoos around the world. It has been an international effort monitored to The Foundation for the Przewalskii Horse of the Netherlands and MACNE (Mongolian Association for Conservation of Nature and the Environment). The national park is rolling Steppe Mountains with rather large patches of birch and aspen forests. There are also visible remains of neolithic graves. In addition Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) and Wolf (Canis lupus) have increased quite a bit during the last few years, as well as Mongolian gazelle. Species that are in Hustai but usually not seen are Lynx, Argali Sheep and Roe Deer. After breakfast, we will make a trek through the varied habitats of Hustai National Park. Starting out from the ger camp we will hike the ridges with views over the distant Moltsog Sands as well as the partly forested Hustai Mountains. We will trek up a gully and get to incredible look out points, while having a reasonable chance to see Red Deer, Black Vultures and other numerous raptor’s such as eagles and falcons. After lunch drive to UB /100kms/. Transfer to 4* hotel. (BL)
Day 11 Explore Terelj Nat. Park Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is located near Ulaanbaatar, about 60 km. The Park is a great getaway destination for short and long time visitors. If time allows, spend a night at one of the Mongolian Ger camps in Terelj Park to get the taste of Mongolian culture. Among local attractions are famous “Turtle” Rock, man-made park with dinosaur statues, “Arraybal” buddhist temple, “Khagiin Khar” Glacier Lake, and relaxing views of Tuul River valley.We can offer a full range of sightseeing tours with “Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex” and “XIII Century National Camp”. Chinggis khan statue complexis located 54 km from Ulaanbaatar among beautiful natural scenery on the bank of river Tuul, in the place called “Tsonjin Boldog”, memorial place connected with historic events. Altai, Hangai and Gobi Drive

Day 1 Arrive in UB
Arrive UB airport and meet by our Blue Wolf team. Takes approx 45min to transfer to hotel. After a short rest to freshen-up we will do a sight -seeing tour of Ulaanbaatar, focusing on such significant cultural sites as Gandan Buddhist Monastery, the Zanzabar Fine Arts Museum, which holds the finest collection of thangka paintings, carvings and sculptures in Mongolia. The Chojin Lama temple will be visited, the location of which clearly illustrates the great contrast between the old and the new in Mongolia. Lunch will be enjoyed in a nearby Mongolian restaurant with traditional cuisine. In the afternoon, the Winter Palace of the last Bogd Khan will be visited which houses some very interesting cultural and religious artifacts. To get a panoramic overview of the city, we may visit the Great Buddha statue and memorial at Zaisan. In the evening at dinner we will enjoy a typical folkloric Mongol performance (songs and dances). Overnight at a 3*/4*/5* hotel. 
Day 2 Fly to (Ulgii) West
Transfer to UB airport and fly 3 hrs to Olgii. (one hour time difference). Met by Kazakh crew and transfer to Blue Wolf Restaurant. Visit the local museum of Olgii town with comprehensive information of flora and fauna of Bayan-Olgii aimag as well as it colorful traditional costumes. Dinner with Kazakh Concert. Overnight in Kazakh felt gers. (B,L,D)
Day 3  Altai Tavan Bogd Nat.Park
Drive the western route along Tsaagan Gol (White River). After (5-6 hrs drive if not stopping) we will arrive at Shiveet Hairhan Mountain, in Altai Tavanbogd National Park, where numerous Tuvan nomads live. Shiveet Hairhan is holy for them, so there is no hunting, and usually possible to see a lot of Siberian Ibex in the early morning. Pitch camp. (B,L,D)
Day 4-5 Altai Tavan Bogd
With the support of camels, we will trek for 16 km to the base camp area at the edge of the 20 km long Potanin glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia. We will pitch our camp right here. Tavanbogd means “The Holy Five” referring to the peaks of Huiten (4374 m and the highest), Naran, Ölgii, Burget and Nairamdal. It is a stunning setting with the awe inspiring massif of high snow capped peaks. Next day, we will remain in the same camp and make a day hike up the non-technical heights of Malchin Uul, where we are likely to trek up through snow. There is also a smaller hill nearby allowing for excellent and stunning views of the mountains, mainly into Russian Altai, but in the distance also China. Overnights in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 6 Altai Tavan Bogd
Trek back on the other side of the Tsaagan River (White River) to Shiveet Hairhan Mountain, where the Tuva people live. Here we will now be able to view the biggest petrolgyphs from the period of the Huns (approx 200 B.C.). The Huns were the reason for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to build the Great Wall of China. Overnight in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 7 To Big Lakes
Driving towards Big Lakes, we will stay on Snake Valley. There are many Turkic stones with face. 
Afternoon, drive nearby western side of Hurgan Nuur and Hoton Nuur, where many Nomadic Kazakh families spend summer. Along the lakes, we see the beautiful waterfall, rock printings and some ancient Turkic stones with face. On the right side we see the snow capped mountains with forest,which make the wall between China and Mongolia. Overnight in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 8 To Dayan Lake
A half day drive to Dayan Lake, near the frontier with China. Visit Kazakh Nomadic Families and feel their grade hospitality. Overnight with family. (B,L,D)
Day 9-10 To Eagle hunter’s family
Drive back to Olgii 3-4 hrs. After lunch in Blue Wolf restaurant, continue our road to south. On the way you will go around Lake Doroo-one of most beautiful and crystal clear lakes of Mongolian Altai. Specially good for photos. After one hour drive, we come to Onei’s family-Kazakh Eagle hunter. Overnight with Eagle hunter and his magnificent bird of pray. 
Next day stay with Eagle hunter and learn some eagle hunting history and skills. Soft hiking. Overnights in tent near family. (B,L,D)
Day 11 Meet Throat Singers(260km)
Today driving towards Hovd you cross the north-west side of Tsamba-Garav Uul (one of the highest snow capped mountains in Mongolia 4208m). Have a lunch in Hovd town. After lunch,driving to will see the Khar Us Nuur National Park, where WWF Mongolia is very active. The largest of the lakes is Khar Us Nuur (Black Water Lake). We will try local hospitality at Jargalant Hairhan Mountain and hike into Rashantiin Am (Spring Valley), a sacred valley. Here is a sacred spring which is being said to have medicinal properties, including good for eye diseases Jargalant Hairhan (Sacred Happiness) is a snow-capped mountain, which is the back drop of Khar Us Lake. Rashantiin Am is an eerie valley with bolder and poplars. The great lakes basin has the largest reed beds in all of Central Asia, with many bird species as well as Saiga Antelope, the rare Wild Boar (in the reeds!), Snow Leopards, Gazelle, Wolves etc.We will move from the desert steppes to Altai Mountians. We will reach Chandman soum , where they claim throat singing originates. and camp next to some nomads. The nomads live from livestock herding. Overnight in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 12-14 To Huvsugul Lake (850 km)
HANGAI (Northern Mongolia)
Driving from Altai Mountains to Hangai Area, you can see many different wild areas, where mountains and steppe areas are combined. Meeting nomadic families , you can see how they are used to live on these remote wild places. Last day, come to Moron, where you can stay in gercamp or hotel with hot shower. (B,L,D)
Day 15-16 Drive to Ulaan Uul viilage
After driving about 160 km /5-6hrs/ reach village UlaanUul. Visit local family. Meet horse rangers and first introduction to the horses and riding training. Next day you will ride horses to meet reindeer people. Overnights in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 17-18 Reindeer and Tsaatan Life
One full day stay with Reindeer family to learn their life styles.Life is tough,but natural and authentic. Staying with these people, you will be out of civilization. Overnight with family. Next day ride back to meet our vehicle. Overnight with horse ranger. Last day drive back to Moron. Overnights in gercamp. (B,L,D) 
Day 18-19 To Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and Khorgo Volcano

Full day driving by open steppe areas and we reach Khongoryn Dunes, the biggest sand dunes in all Asia. 
The 800-meter high sand dunes in Sevrei soum, South aimag, are called Khonguryn Els. These dunes are 20 km wide and 180 km long. The Khonguryn River flows along the stand dunes and gives birth to oases.Visit the dunes with camel riding. Visit a local camel breeding family and learn about their breeding programs. Day 22 To Yolyn Am
Driving to east about 150 km (4 hrs), we come to The Valley in the Zuun Saikhan mountain located 45 km from Dalanzadgad, in the center of South Gobi aimag, is called Yolyn Am. The narrow Valley between high rock walls has breathtaking dramatic scenery, and no doubt is one of the beautiful places in the country. In rainy summers hundreds of small waterfalls appear in the rocky walls. Freaking camel and horse riding tours are available to the valley. Overnight at gercamp. (B,L,D)
Day 23 To Baga Gazryn Chuluu
Drive to north-west about 200 km and reach Middle Gobi and BAGAGAZRYN CHULUU. Visit the stones Valley walking and runes of the Sacred Monastery. Explore archaeological sites

Day 1 Arrive in UB
Arrive UB airport and meet by our Blue Wolf team. Takes approx 45min to transfer to hotel. Day 2 Fly To Ulgii
By your arrival in UB meet by our guide and transfer to hotel. After lunch, we will do city site seeing tour. Explore, Gandan Monastery, Buddhist center in Ulaanbaatar. See Zanabazar Museum Chojin Lama temple. Lunch time in a typical Mongolian Restaurant The winter Palace Buda Big Statue on the Hill Central market (black) (one or two hours if we have time), at the restaurant, during Dinner time (optional). Day 3 To TsambaGarav Nat.Park
To TsambaGarav Nat.ParkDrive to BW-Tsamba Camp by Russian 4wd jeep or 4wd minivan. This camp is located just on the north-west side of Tsamba-Garav Uul (one of the highest snow capped mountains in Mongolia 4208 m). On the way,we will see some rock printings and also ancient deer stone in Olon Nuur valley. (BLD) 
Day 4 To Togrog lake
After driving by remote high mounians with snow caps, we will come Togrog Lake. This valley had the best view of Eclipse-2008 (August,1st), also summer spending place of Kazakh Nomadic people. Good fly fishing in rivers and lake. In the evening,we visit the local Kazakh herder families and feel the grade hospitality. Overnight in gers. (BLD) 
Day 5 Day hike to Gants Mod valley or horse ride
Gants Mod valley is rich with rock printings and deer stones.We will have a picnic lunch, and hike back to Togrog Lake. Overnight in gers. (BLD) 
Day 6 To Dayan lake
Driving by remote wild country,you meet many petro-glyphs and ancient Turkish stones with face. Today we spend night in gers, located between Dayan and Black lakes. These lakes have crystal clear water and many water birds. Good fishing and bird watching. Overnight in ger/tent. (BLD) 
Day 7 To Hoton lake
Today we drive to north about 4-5 hrs and reach eastern shore of lake Hoton. On the way,we stop for picnic lunch in Baga Turgen Valley. This valley has beautiful waterfall and surrounded by larch forest.Near waterfall,you can see some rock printings. Overnight in ger/tent. (BLD) 
Day 8 To Snake valley
After breakfast,walk towards hill,which is just on the east from camp side, and look for many graves and rock printings. Then driving towards the Tavan Bogd National Park,on the way you have chance to see remote mountain country,when our jeeps will cross big pass.We will pitch camp just near ancient Turkic stones with face and graves. Overnight in tent. (BLD) 
Day 9 Sites of Shiveet Khairkhan
Today after driving about 90 km, we reach our road end. This is home place of Tuvan people, who don’t have any religion. On the way we will stop near Mountain Shiveet Hairhan (Holy Mountain). Tuvan people respect this mountain like their god, so no hunting. There are about 400 ibexs. On the southeast side of this mountain, you will see the biggest rock printing (petro-glyphs) from the period of the Huns (approx 200 B.C.). The Huns were the reason for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to build the Great Wall of China. Overnight in tent. (BLD)
Day 10-12 Hiking along Potanin Glacier and back
First day, trek for 11 km toward the base camp of the snow-capped Tavanbogd massif. Pitch camp next to the 20 km long Potanin glacier – the biggest of the twenty glaciers in Mongolian Altai. Remain there for two nights. Tavanbogd means “The Holy Five”, referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. Quite a considerable height at this altitude. It is a stunning setting with the awe-inspiring massif of high snow-capped peaks. Second day, for a full day we will make day hikes to the Malchin Uul. These are non-technical climbs. Third day, trek back to Tsaagan River (White River). The pick-up vehicle (s) will arrive this camp-side tonight. Overnights in tent. (BLD) 
Day 13 To Khar Yamaat sites
Driving about 100 km,we reach the Khar Yamaat Valley. There are you will see the Turkic Archaeological sites, which are belonged to 6-8 centuries of B.C. After picnic lunch drive to Olgii. Overnight in Blue Wolf gercamp. (BLD)
Day 14  Fly to UB
After early breakfast, transfer to Olgii airport.  You will have a full day to explore the sprawling city of retro architecture, thrilling nightlife, wild traffic and exciting commerce. There’s plenty to see, do and eat – your guide will recommend some of the best places to dine at 
Day 15 Depart  UB
After early breakfast, transfer to UB airport. Leave only foot prints & take only lifetime of memories home from your Mongolian adventure.

Reindeer & Tsaatan Culture, 11 days, from $1530

Day 1 Arrive UB

Day 2  Fly to Huvsugul and Drive to Renchinlkhumbe
Transfer to UB airport from your hotel in UB. Flight to Moron about one and an half hour. Meet our team (English speaking guide, cook and driver). Start a driving to north-west toward Ulaan-uul village /180kms/. On the way, you will enjoy beautiful Taiga Mountains and the dense forests. Overnight in Ulaan-uul village with Batbayar’s family. Batbayar is local hunter with rifle. Batbayar and his friends will be our horse rangers. Stay with family. (BLD)
Day 3-4 To Reindeers
Early morning we start horse ride toward high mountains. Only next day evening, we reach the rein-deer people, who live in tepees. Overnight in tent. (BLD)
Day 5-6 Stay with Reindeer Herders
Learn their everyday life and their traditions as like milking reindeers, riding, processing skins. Also you enjoy the beautiful nature. Reindeer people /Tsaatan/ are small ethnic group of Mongolia /about 600/. They follow shamanism and very believe in mysterious shamanist deeds and traditions. (BLD)
Day 7-9 Ride back to road end and Drive to Murun

Known as “The Dark Blue Pearl”, Lake Khovsgol is Mongolia’s largest and deepest lake. Located in the northernmost province, it is the largest tributary stream of Lake Baikal in Russia. Lake Khuvsgul is 136 km long, 36 km wide, and 262 meters deep and is located at an altitude of 1645 m above sea level and is frozen from January until April or May. It’s the second largest fresh water lake in Central Asia. It’s inhabited by nine species of fish including the Siberian grayling and lenok. Fishing and sport fishing are becoming popular in the lake area. Taiga Fauna and Flora, Tsaatan, practicing reindeer breeding are the main attractions for tourist. Different ethnic groups live in the area: Khalh, Darhadt, and Buryat. Tsaatans are raindeer herders. Lake Khovsgol is on the important migration route for birds from Siberia, thus facilitating marvelous opportunities for birdwatching. In the evening, come to Murun city. Day 10 Fly to UB
Early breakfast and transfer to Murun airport. Fly back to UB about 2hrs. Transfer to 4* hotel. Tsambagarav National Park

Day 1 Olgii – Tsambagarav Uul National Park
Arrive by air at Olgii airport. Visit the local museum with its comprehensive collection of flora and fauna of the region, as well as the col- ourful traditional costumes of the area. After lunch we will drive for about 3-4 hrs until we reach the northside of Tsambagarav Uul National Park. The place is called Tavan Belcheer which means “Five Pastures”. Overnight in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 2 Tsambagarav Uul National Park
Tsambagarav Uul (4208m) is one of the most beautiful mountains in the Altai. It is permanently snowcapped and sits on the border of three provinces, Bayan-Olgii, Uvs and Hovd. The National Park was established in year 2000 and has a notable population of snow- leopards. Here you can see man made petroglyphs as well as won- derful waterfalls and crystal clear springs. You may even meet a Kazakh Eagle Hunter! Overnight in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 3-4 Trekking day
We now start our trekking in the Altai Mountains where we will enjoy the amazing views of the snow capped mountains surrounding you. We will load our equipment onto pack-camels and/or pack-horses and trek for 6 km toward our campsite at the base of the snow-capped mountains. We will then spend the following days trekking in this amazing landscape. Overnight in tent. (B,L,D)
Day 5 Drive back to Ulgii
Short days drive to Ulgii. The Kazakh influence is strong in this town and it has bazaar instead of a market and a mosque instead of a Buddhist monastery. There are some interesting back street handicraft shops and a well-stocked local museum. We will spend the night in a Ger Camp. (B,L,D)
Day 6 Fly to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast. Transfer is included to Ulgii airport if you depart by air to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your hotel.  Depart from Ulaanbaatar and bring home a lifetime of memories from your Mongolian adventure.

Russian & Mongolian Altai

Day 1 Fly to Russian Altai (GornoAltaisk)
Arrive in Gorno-Altaisk airport early morning and meet by our agent and drive to town. Transfer to local hotel.Explore the city and visit the most interesting – Anokhin’s National Museum, where the mummy of the famous “Altai princess” is kept. The mummy of a woman was discovered by the expedition of Novosibirsk archeologist Natalia Polosmak in 1993 in a kurgan of Scythian era on Ukok plateau in Altai, near the border with Mongolia. This find, which has been dated to more than 2,500 years old, is considered to be one of the most significant archeological discoveries of recent times. Native Altaians consider the mummy to be their ancestor and call her “the Altai princess”. Overnight at 4* hotel. (LD) 
Day 2 Take a shuttle bus towards Belukha Mountian Nat.Park.
Our guide will help you to cath the shuttle bus to reach basecamp, which is situated in a picturesque place on the bank of the Katun River. The road passes through the well-known Chuya Highway among rocky ridges of the Altai Mountains, followed by Kanskaya steppe in Uymonskaya valley. Arriving at Ust-Koksa village to the tourist complex. Lunch. Getting equipment. Safety-awareness briefing. Dinner, acquaintance party. Overnight in tent. (D)
Day 3-4 Hiking along Kucherla river
After breakfast, drive few hrs (64kms) and reach the road end. We start to trek along the river Kucherla (from Altai “Kudzhur-ly”, which means “with saline soils”), formed by the confluence of two mountain streams, Myushtu-Ayry and Koni-Ayry, has an amazing milky-turquoise water. The total length of the river is about 50 km. It cuts a lot of ridges and moraines, beats against the gorges, forming an almost continuous chain of challenging rapids. On the way – visiting a rocky cave near the Kuylyu river, in which niche you can see more than 100 cave paintings. Overnight in tent. (BLD) Next day, hike to Kucherla lake Today we continue our way by Kucherla valley and reach Kucherla lake. The lake is 5220 m long, at 1790 m above sea level elevation, 900 m wide and 55 m deep. The Kucherla Valley has more than 40 tectonic, corrie and moraine lakes. The Kucherla Lake is the largest of them. It is closed by mountain ridges from east and west with loosened rocks up to 3,000 m high, narrow valley of the Kucherla from south and moraine deposits that create a dam from north. The lake is filled with ice, greenish-blue water. Overnight in tent. (BLD).
Day 5-6 Kara Tyurek pass crossing
We have allocated two full days for the crossing of the Belukha mountian range by Kara-Tyurek pass, which is a total of a mere 15km. First day, we will pitch camp before the snow area in timberline. For sure, big game such as Snow Leopards and its prey species, live here, but they are extremely difficult to get to see. Perhaps there is Altai Snowcock. Next day, we will cross the pass at the highest elevation of some 3060m our trek and have the broad views across the Altais. A spectacular panoramic view of Belukha Mountain and endless peaks of Katun ridge. It provides a good opportunity for photo and video shootings. Walk down and arrive to a basecamp near Akkem lake. Overnight in tents. (BLD)
Day 7-8 Rest and Day Hikes around Belukha Mountian
Day one, Hike to Ak-Kemsky glacier and the lake of mountain spirits Visiting the chapel. The path runs along the Ak-kem lake through several picturesque hanging bridges, moves across stone piles in the form of an old moraine and leads to Ak-kem riverhead, coming out of the kingdom of ice and cold. Dinner at the Ak-Kem glacier. It provides an excellent opportunity for photo and video shooting. It is possible to climb up to the lake of Mountain Spirits on the way (optional, and depending on group’s well-being). Day two, to Ak-Oyuk river gorge, valley of seven lakes and Yarley valley The Ak-Oyuk riverhead has the most beautiful lakes, each of which has its own unique color: turquoise, green, milky-blue and blue-black. Descending to the base camp after the hike. Lunch. After lunch – excursion to Yarlu valley (optional), where the entire city is built of stones.
Day 9 Trek down along Ak-kem river
Full day trek through the dramatic steppe valley along the river that drains from the Belukha mountain, creating a series of beautiful lakes. “Ak-Kem”, translated from Turkic language, means “white water”. Indeed, the river has milky-white water. The river starts in Ak-Kem glacier and carries small pieces of lime stone from Belukha slopes. Overnight in tent at “Three birches” campside. (BLD).
Day 10 Trek by Kuzuyak Pass (1513m)
After early breakfast, we continue our trekking along Ak-Kem river. Then turn to left by trial to come up the Kuzuyak pass, where you can find several Shaman trees festooned with ribbons – dalailama. Reach Tungur village and meet our vehicle and drive to Ust-Koksa. Overnight in tent. (BLD).
Day 11 Drive to GornoAltaisk
You have free time before lunch. Possible horse ride or rafting. After lunch, visit Verkhniy Uymon village, which is one of the oldest villages in the Ust-Koksinsky area. The village was founded by Old Believers about 300 years ago. It has two museums: Local History Museum named after N.K. Roerich and Old Belief Museum. At 17:00 p.m drive back to GornoAltaisk by shuttle bus. And after 5-6hrs, reach GornoAltaisk city and meet by our guide. Transfer to 3*hotel.
Day 12-13 Explore cultural Altai
Head out of the city towards GornoAltaisk. We travel up the Katun River to Chemal village to visit the small and spectacularly located nunnery of Patmos monastery, situated on a rocky island in the river and accessible by a hanging bridge. We visit the nunnery and learn how priests here converted the Turkic speaking Altai people to Christianity at the end of the 18 th century. Drive towards the Mongolian highlands, crossing several mountain passes. It is a spectacular road journey on a good tarmac road following the Katun and Choy Rivers, almost to the tree line, up several valleys, until we almost reach the tree line. Overnight in the village of Boochi, where we spend time meeting local Altaian families and discovering local archaeological sites like graves and petroglyps. (BLD) Second day, Today, continue our road along the river Choy to the Kosh Agach Plateau, and the town of Kosh Agach, populated by ethnic Kazakhs. We will cross into Mongolia after the small village of Tashanta. It will certainly take an hour of formalities for both sides. The goods roads will totally disappear as we enter into Mongolia, and Bayan-Olgii province. Overnight in local hotel. (BLD)
Day 14 Drive to Chigertei Lake (2550m)
Drive to Chigertei Lake, which is a summer pasture area for Kazakh nomadic pastoralists. We will meet with our local hosts for the next few days, which are horse and camel wranglers from the area. If the families have arrived, we will pitch camp next to their yurts on the shore line of the lake. (Tents/LD).
Day 15 Trek (2550-3005m, 5-7hrs)
Load all luggage and equipment on to camels, maybe horses. Trek a short day south through inhabited lush valleys. Trail finders are local Kazakh people who are also the owners of our support animals, like camels or horses. Local people keep also yaks, goats and sheep. (Tents/BLD).
Day 16-17 Trek (3150m-2450m, 6-7hrs)
Today we will continue south through valleys, however now likely devoid of any people as we ascend to higher altitudes towards and across the Jolt Pass (3150m) which is the highest point of the trek, crossing the part called Tsengel Hairhan Nuruu. If the skies are clear (which is likely in June) there will be magnificent views of the snowcapped Altai Mountains. Next day, trek through uninhabited lush valleys in the Altai Mountains. Day 18-19 Trek (1850m-2950m, 6-7hrs)
Today we turn north again gaining altitude again opening up for the mountain landscapes surrounding us and we will again come down towards the marsh lands near the southern tip of Dayan Lake as we enter Altai Tavanbogd National Park here. We can now see a new group of nomads camps in the distance, who have their summer pastures in the basin of Dayan Lake.Second day, trek (2950m-2425m, 5-7hrs) Trek day northwest direction along the wetlands until we reach the Dayan Lake. Local people are in quite large number as the area has rich pastures usually due to the run off of water from the mountains and the lake side riparian zone. There is difficult to see wildlife here such as Brown Bears and Red Deer (Cervus elaphus). (Tents/BLD).
Day 20 Dayan Nuur Trek (2425m-2550m, 5-7hrs)
Full day trek along the Dayan Lake with crystal clear transparent waters. The open vistas allows for great views of the snow capped mountains – among them Mt Holagash – in the distance. Hopefully pitching camp at the north end of the lake. The trek is great for fishing for Lenok Trout (Lenok brachymystax) and Grayling (Thymallus arcticus) of which Mongolia has four species, and in this area, the largest of all Graylings of the circumpolar north. Great sunset and sunrises here. The lake is rich in bird life of ducks, Whooper Swans, geese, cormorants and gulls. (Tents/BLD)
Day 21 To Drive towards Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks
After early breakfast, we start our driving towards Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks. Drive through the dramatic steppe valley along the river that drains from the Altai Tavanbogd massif, creating a series of beautiful lakes.On the way, we stop near Bashakhan’s family-Kazakh Eagle hunter. Visit his family and feel their grade hospitalities. Bashakhan keep many horses to milk and make a koumiss (nomadic beer). You have a chance see his grade golden eagle and learn some hunting skills. After lunch here, we continue our driving and reach road end near Potanin Glacier. (Tents/BLD)
Day 22-24 Tavanbogd massif (2550m-3300m, 4025m)
First day, trek for 25 km toward the base camp of the snow-capped Tavanbogd massif. Pitch camp next to the Potanin glacier – the biggest of the twenty glaciers in Mongolian Altai. Remain there for two nights. Tavanbogd means “The Holy Five”, referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. Quite a considerable height at this altitude. It is a stunning setting with the awe-inspiring massif of high snow-capped peaks. Second day, rest day and soft hiking around Third day, for a full day (7-8hrs) we will make day hikes to the Malchin Uul. These are non-technical climbs. Overnights in same campside. (B,L,D).
Day 25 Drive to Olgii
After driving 185 km, we reach Olgii and transfer to Blue Wolf Restaurant and have a lunch. The bazaar in Olgii is interesting, as well as the mosque, which has been renovated in recent times. You have the whole day to visit Olgii. There are some very interesting back street handicraft shops and a well-stocked local museum. During a dinner you will enjoy with Kazakh short concert. Overnight at Blue Wolf gercamp. (BLD)
Day 26 Fly to UB
After breakfast, transfer to Olgii airport to catch a flight for Ulaanbaatar. Meet by our guide and transfer to hotel. After lunch, we will do city site seeing tour. Explore Gandan Monastery, Buddhist center in Ulaanbaatar. See Zanabazar Museum Chojin Lama temple. Lunch time in a typical Mongolian Restaurant. The winter Palace Buda Big Statue on the Hill Central market (black) (one or two hours if we have time) Typical folkloric Mongol performance (songs and dances), at the restaurant, during Dinner time (optional). Overnight in 3* or 4* hotel. (B)
